This week was a very special week as our team began the process of sharing knowledge and discussing their connection to Leonora Carrington (1917-2011). The sense of community around the room was special – lots of chatter with a warm cup of tea – this is how all the best ideas start right? This was our first meeting with all our voluntary artists – the ideas were endless and we cannot wait to share our progress with you.
We are on a mission to keep surrealism alive and to bring something different to this year’s Brighton Fringe Festival. We want to raise awareness of the forgotten surrealists, to celebrate the autonomous unwavering spirit of Leonora Carrington – A female surrealist in her own right. Tickets will be available very shortly – keep an eye out for updates as we take on our biggest challenge yet.
‘This event will give the Brighton community a chance to see themselves reflected in Leonora Carrington’s work. Her explorations of transformation, rebellion, and identity speak directly to a city that has always embraced the wild, the weird, and the non-conforming. I hope people will come away feeling a deep connection to her stories and a reminder that resisting the norm – living on your own terms – isn’t just possible, it’s powerful.‘
Caroline Beavon – Artist in The Leonora Carrington Series

“It’s never too late to mend – the fact that I am ignored in my own Country.”
